Sluice / Gate Valve

A Gate Valve or a Sluice Gate Valve is described as a valve that uses a gate or wedge shape disk that slides perpendicular to the flow of the fluid into or out of the pipeline. When the gate valve is fully opened, the disk of the gate valve is completely separated from the flow. This practically gives no opposition to flow. Due to this, very little reduction in pressure is experienced as the fluid moves through the gate valve.

Working of a Sluice Valve

The sluice gate valve is controlled by a lifting gate or wedge, so that flow of water can move without obstruction. The top end of the stem has a hand-operated wheel or a motor that raises and lowers the doors, and the lower end has a circular or wedge gate to obstruct water flow. It employs a threaded stem, so the valve must turn several times to shift from the open position to the closed position, and vice versa to stop water hammering.

UVML Gate Valves are available in multiple design standards like: IS 14846/2000, BS 5163, API 600, BS 1414, DIN 3202 Etc. with customizable Face to Face as per site requirement as well.

Types of Gate / Sluice Valves​

Rising Spindle type valve​

In this type of valve, the spindle/stem is connected to the gate. While operating the spindle valve does not rotate with the handwheel but raised with the spindle.
Rising Spindle type valve​.

Non-Rising Spindle type valve​

In this type of valve design the spindle is threaded and the gate is also threaded internally where it is attached to the spindle. While operating the valve stem does not raise from its place but rotates in its place to raise the gate using threads.

The Metal Seated Gate Valves are primarily designed for isolating flow along a pipe or equipment piece. It utilizes a gate made of flexible metal containing bronze rings to provide a tight water seal. Gate valves are valves that allow fluid to pass through and stop the flow by the movement of the gate, also known as the disc, in the vertical direction using a threaded stem. Gate valves are not throttling valves and must be fully open or fully closed. The seal is provided by metallic materials on the sliding and body. Thanks to this feature, it can be used in applications requiring high temperatures.

Our metal seated Valves come in both Rising and Non-Rising Spindle Arrangements.

UPADHAYA or UVML Resilient Seated Valves can be customized in multiple configurations and combined with accessories as per site requirements.

The use of resilient seat valve, the two contacting sealing surfaces can be separate or all soft materials such as plastic and rubber can be used. Since the soft material is easy to deform and fills up the unevenness of the sealing surface, the soft seal can achieve a very high degree of medium sealing performance, and this extremely high degree of medium sealing performance can be repeatedly achieved. The disadvantage is that the use of soft sealing materials is affected by the pressure and temperature that the sealing materials can withstand.

For industrial valves, the opening and closing parts of soft-sealed gate valves are gates. The movement direction of the gates is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid. The gate valves can only be fully opened and fully closed, and cannot be adjusted or throttled.
